Review: Acer 22" Widescreen Flat-Panel LCD Monitor Model AL2223WD

Acer 2223WD MonitorI got my new Acer 22" Widescreen Flat-Panel LCD Monitor Model AL2223WD a few weeks ago via UPS. So far, I am very pleased.

Pros

The picture is magnificent! This is the first DVI monitor I have used at home and the picture quality is sharp. I have the monitor sitting next to a 19" Dell with normal VGA input and I was very surprised by the contrast in picture quality. The dell used to seem so clear and sharp, but not compared to my new Acer.

The size is great! I have been concerned about getting a widescreen monitor because when I see 19" monitors in the store, they seem rather small. The 22" is an excellent size.

I was concerned about purchasing a widescreen because I was afraid I would not be able to play many games without getting black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. However, my fears were abated when I found the Widescreen Gaming Forum. They have a list of games that have been tested on widescreen monitors. All of the games I care about are on listed as being compatible with widescreen monitors. Yeah!

Cons

The biggest complaint I have regarding this monitor is that it has two dead pixels. One is permanently red and the other is permanently blue. For the most part I don't notice them. However, if there is ever a dark/black background or I am playing a game with dark scenery the pixels do stand out. The monitor comes with a 3-year warranty, but it appears that I have to have something like 16 pixels out before they will replace it. Bummer. While these dead pixels can be annoying, I rarely notice them.

It would have been nice if the monitor could raise up. I am fairly tall so I have put the monitor on a Webster's Dictionary to allow for more comfortable viewing.

Conclusion

If you get a chance to pick up this monitor for a good price, I would recommend it. As I said in my previous post, I picked up this monitor for about $190.00, before shipping. I would be another, in a heartbeat. Amazon still has some in stock.
